06 Mar Neighborhood Painting Wins 25 Under 25® Award
Annual awards program honors Kansas City companies with fewer than 25 employees
Neighborhood Painting Inc. is the proud recipient of the 25 Under 25® Award, a long-running honor that is presented each year to Kansas City’s finest small businesses.
Ryan Toelkes, founder of Neighborhood Painting, accepted the award during the 25 Under 25® Awards Gala on Feb. 28 at the Downtown Marriott’s Muehlebach Tower. The awards are presented to 25 local businesses with fewer than 25 employees. Companies are judged on their financial stability, ability to overcome adversity and challenges, community involvement, distinguishing or defining characteristics and company vision.
To be considered for the award, companies must meet three requirements:
- Have fewer than 25 full-time (or full-time equivalent) employees
- Operate a for-profit business for three or more years
- Be located in the Greater Kansas City area
An independent panel of judges consisting of area business leaders chooses the winning companies. More than 1,400 nominations were submitted. This year’s honorees included:

Sherry Turner, founder of OneKC for Women, was the recipient of the annual Entrepreneurial Legacy Award. OneKC for Women is an alliance of several organizations that help women start businesses, win employment and pursue their goals of financial independence.
